Series 3 – Clean

Author Comments

Spent a lot of time on the coding part on this one. It has got a nice little hover effect for the image which I didn't expect to work on myspace, but it did. The layout is the first one in a series - they will all use the same base, but with different color combos and textures (feel free to give ideas). Enjoy.

Instructions

For more information, how to change images and links, please go here. (same methods, not same code)
Measurements for the Picture or Video box is width:540px height:250px. You can put any video you want there, for example from youtube.com or vimeo.com. Will write more instructions soon. Got questions? Comment.

    @Bill

    Thanks! Replacing the boxed links is easy, scroll down and find the following code:

    <ul>  <li><a href="#" class="active" rel="">Link One</a></li>  <li><a href="#" rel="">Link Two</a></li>  <li><a href="#" rel="">Link Three</a></li>                          </ul>

    Where the # signs are, you just put the http:// adresses. As for the “Link One”, “Link Two” etc, you just replace that text with whatever text you want the boxed link to say.

    If you just want 1 or 2 boxed links, simply remove 2 of them. As an example, here’s the code for only one:

    <ul><li><a href="http://designmyspace.org" rel="">Design Myspace</a></li></ul>

    Hey I love your work it’s very professional and what I’m looking for. But i was wondering if you do custom myspace layouts. See i play in a band (Living In Red) and we need to do up our myspace page. We have a guy but he’s pretty pricey. So i was wondering if for free you design a myspace that is custom for us. Like a dark red floral pattern with light grey and white and lots of spots for bio and pictures at the top then comments down the middle. Anyway just wondering. Great work thanks.

    Very very nicely done here! I like it.

    By the way have you gotten a chance to view the 2.0 coding yet?

    Also… this one is important: How come I receive a spam call at home on my phone asking for a Rudy Cross, and it’s not my real name? My email isn’t readable by spam bots is it, when I use it here?

  13. Gravatar

    Thanks Rudy, haven’t had time and lust to look at the 2.0 code yet. As for that spam thing… I’m sure Wordpress is safer than that. Don’t you use that name anywhere else? I’m 99.99% sure it’s not from here.

    Nope, I do not use it anywhere else. I moved though, so now it’s fine. I may have to stop using that email address for a while so the bots will quit. I don’t know why it’s happening, if I’m only using this name here…

    I could start using my real one, but then I couldn’t say ‘There isn’t a Rudy Cross here’ substitute that for my real name.

    Since you’re that sure, it boggles me as to what is causing the bots to get the name, and then find my real life info… do you know how I can fix it so they can’t?

    I’d still suggest hiding the navigation with this layout, since you have a MySpace Home link at the top, so users don’t feel trapped to the page. But unfortunately, I can’t seem to find a code that hides the entire navigation, along with the image that MySpace puts in it’s background to make it look 3D sort of. But I did the best I could.

    If you know how to hide it entirely, could you share please? Thanks.

    div table div .mslogo {display:none!important}
    div div table div li {display:none!important}

    @Laura

    Do you want to replace the current video with your own? Find this code:

    <object height="330" width="540">  <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="never" />  <param name="allowNetworking" value="internal" />  <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4pXfHLUlZf4&hl=en&fs=1&ap=%2526fmt%3D22&autoplay=1" />  <param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="never" allowNetworking="internal" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4pXfHLUlZf4&hl=en&fs=1&ap=%2526fmt%3D22&autoplay=1" height="330" width="540" wmode="transparent" /></object>

    And just replace it with any embed flash code from vimeo, youtube etc.

    @Matt

  22. Gravatar
    Russell said,

    @odaswa,

    Yeah, you’ll have to change the attribute for the image itself within the code to ‘vertical’ or ‘horizontal’ which would be ‘x’ or ‘y’ I believe. If it’s not, then swap them, and that will be correct. I would go into more detail but I don’t really have the time right now. If you don’t figure it out, just come back here and say so, I’ll see what I can do, when I have time, to give a better explanation, along with codes.

  23. Gravatar
    February 15, 2009

    Odaswa, find this code:

    body { margin-top: 712px; font-size: 1px; line-height: auto; background-color:311e16; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; background-repeat: repeat; background-position: top center; background-image: url(http://i43.tinypic.com/2v8lehc.jpg);}

    As you can see there, the background is repeating both x and y, as Rudy is talking about (background-repeat: repeat;), but the image itself is so wide, so you wont see it repeating in the other direction. However, if you replace it with your own image, it will be repeating in both ways, as you want it.

    @Amanda,

    I agree it is a great layout. As for your question – I’ve actually asked Alex about it before (under the name Rudy Cross), and he said that he just hasn’t had the time to learn the 2.0 code, and make layouts under it. But I’m sure when he can he probably will. Since it’s being asked alot more now, it wouldn’t make sense for him to say no to it, lol.

    In the meantime you can visit http://www.createblog.com and check out the 2.0 layouts there. Soon I’m going to be submitting more layouts there. On that site I go by Suddenly. Look up my 2.0 layouts if you like elegant and clean. Also you can check out http://www.whateverlife.com for 2.0 layouts, in a totally different style, that I think you’ll like.

    Right now, in my opinion, those are the best sites I can find for 2.0 layouts, that actually are well coded, and greatly designed imagery. If you find any with better, please let me know. I will update my links. For 1.0, atleast till Alex decides to make 2.0, and has the time… I suggest coming here. Alex makes the best 1.0 layouts there is. I have used Speed Dial addon on Firefox, to add this webpage, and many others, so I don’t have to type it in, just click, and it goes. :)

    Have fun! :D

    Hey Alex, I have a question. I never asked this before, I don’t think. But I was wonder, would you allow me to use your coding on this layout, to create my own layout, and submit it on my deviantART page? Of course, with your credit still on it?

    That would be awesome if you allowed me. Since I can’t code for the life of me, I always use scripts and codes I find on the net, or I barrow codes from another artist (with permission of course).

    Get back to me when you have a chance, you can click on my name here, to view my deviantART page. :)

    Hello, I can’t seem to get this theme to work right with the New 2.0 version of myspace.

    It won’t show up right:(

    I tired to add the CSS/style in the MySpace CSS editor but it throws everything out of whack. What do i put in the About Me section, it won’t take the CSS?

    Thanks,

    Suggestions

    Toget rid of Navbar: (Keeps searchbox and ad).

    div div table div, div.clearfix a, input {display:none;}
    div.clearfix table div div {display:block;}

    Change Home Link (to get correct link):

    What I’d like to see on myspace.com/sublink is SEO. Meta tag optimization and keywords for higher rankings in search engines. Most employers have started to enter the technology age using myspace linkedin etc. to get the latest scoop on potential and current employees. Even courthouses most their criminial records for bday and full name. Why not make this work to your advantage. Make it professional and market it.

    SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION – http://www.seobugz.com/free-my-space.blogspot.com
    We should start using this. There may be compatibility issues with myspace. Like they way myspace changes links. But if the tool is used correctly its free marketing as far as search engine results. People get their profiles in higher rankings and ALEX gets more views for his templates because of it. It would benefit bothe parties if you could figure out how to utilize it and share it with others so they can benefit as well.

    If we get more rankings its more networking for us. And when they see alex’s profile and we keep his link in there for exchange. Hes going to get better website traffic making his site more valueable. Which means you could look into sponsors for your sites and post ad’s for a cost since ppl will pay to do it if you have traffic. Kind of like a pro bono. It benefits everyone.

    @Chris,

    Use Adobe Photoshop, go to “Image” > “Adjustments” > then “Hue/Saturation”. A box will pop up when you open that, run your mouse over the first slider and move it to the left, or right, until you get the color you want. It’ll move freely – instead of popping to a certain spot when you move it, unlike other programs. I use it all the time. I don’t know if it’s the most effective way or not, but it works for me.
