Replan your Work Space

February 17, 2012

It may not seem important, but the design, layout and comfort of an employee’s workspace can have a large impact on productivity and creativity. An employee in a dreary and uncomfortable environment will not be working at maximum capacity. After all, our moods can be greatly affected by our surrounding environment. With that in mind, as an employer you should always consult your employees before undertaking any change to a work space. Employees who are involved in such changes will feel valued by being consulted and they are the ones with the most insight into how they work best.

Simple Changes

Even if your budget is small, little changes can make a big difference. Ensure there is enough natural light but at the same time make it possible to block out any midday glare from the sun that may shine irritatingly on computer screens. Replacing chairs and desks with more ergonomic ones will improve employees’ health and comfort and hopefully result in fewer sick days. Height-adjustable desks can be great for accommodating different functions.

Consult an Expert

If you are planning a major overhaul of your office, it can be a good idea to use an office refurbishment service which will not only design your space but will also provide and fit the interior and supply any furniture. Remember, in a world where image is everything, the look and feel of your workspace is a reflection of your brand. They can give you a variety of options and may encourage you to try things you would never have thought of. By engaging a service such as this, you can still make the decisions but the hassle of sourcing materials and furniture is taken off your hands.

Open Plan with Privacy

Often maligned by employees, the open-plan workspace can be considered soulless and impersonal. If you have one, make it work by providing screens to give a sense of privacy. Have private rooms available for meetings and collaborative working and don’t forget to provide a relaxed and comfortable area for rest and refreshments.
