The advances in communication technology have opened up the opportunity for many people to now work remotely from home to avoid a lengthy commute. If you are a home worker then it’s vitally important that you create the right environment to maximize your concentration and productivity. Here are some tips to help you create the perfect study at home.

Avoid distractions

One of the major challenges facing any home worker is the temptation to be enticed by distractions that you wouldn’t usually have in an office environment. Make sure you don’t have anything in your study which could lead you to lose concentration while working, such as televisions and music players, and make sure you mark out a clear boundary between work and leisure by setting yourself allocated break times to wind down.

Lighting

Check the lighting levels you’ll need for your home study, by balancing the lighting levels in accordance with the natural light you get through the windows. If your study is too dark, you can be left having to strain your eyes which will leave your eyes feeling tired and can cause damage  in the long term.

Stay connected

Even when working from home, you may still need regular contact with the office or with clients, so make sure you have the correct equipment to make sure you are contactable at all times. For example, make sure you have an office land line and mobile as well as a home line. If a family member is on the phone then colleagues or clients may not be able to get through to speak to you. It would be also useful to set up an instant messaging facility alongside email to allow instant communication with the office. By making sure you have various methods of communication, you can ensure that you are always available should there be connectivity issues.

Comfortable working environment

Creating a comfortable environment for working will be vital to the quality of your output, so you should carefully research and plan study furniture for the home. Every aspect of your working space should be carefully selected in line with the needs of your body. You should have a chair that provides maximum back support and your desk needs to be at the correct angle and height to where you plan to sit. Having the correct furniture and arrangement will allow you to concentrate solely on business rather than any aches and pains brought about from sitting incorrectly.
